When I Grow up
When I grow up I want to be successful and happy. I would be working happily with my dream job, and living with smiles and bravery. My job would take 8 hours up from my day, letting me go home at 4pm. I would be making enough money to support my family and I, and I would be living in a two story home in San Francisco. Even though life will not be as much revolved around dance, I will make time for the dancing art. I will teach at local dance studios, and will take weekly ballet classes as well. My body will stay fit and I will also encourage my family to stay fit as well. I will be happy and confident with myself.

Internship Interview:
Selena - the PT student
Rick- PRN director
Q: What are some challenges that you have faced?
A: Selena: I had a hard time in school, and getting the grades for PT school. The requirements for PT school are harder to get and you need a higher gpa. I applied to 9 different PT schools, and at first I didn't get into any of them. I really had to persevere to get into PT school.
Q: When have you felt most overwhelmed?
A: Selena: Junior and Senior Year of college were probably the most stressful. I had a tough time with chemistry even though I loved it, and also in physics. Applying to School was also stressful. Well, School is always stressful, and we had a shorten semester once too. Another Overwhelming time was dissecting a dead body or a cadaver, that's the proper term. I was so grossed out although it was really interesting.
Q: What colleges did you go to?
A: Selena: I went to Villanova college for my first years of college. Now I go to Campbell University which is in North Carolina.
Q: What skills are required for you to use on a daily basis?
A: Rick: Communication is a good skill to have. You also have to be good with people and make a real connection with people not a ‘fake’ one. You have to have critical thinking as well. Time management is a big one too. You might need documentation skills, and of course you have to be able to multitask.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: Rick: I enjoy getting to know patients well. That is what is unique about PT. Unlike regular doctors or pediatricians, where you come into the office every 6 months or so, PT’s see their patients a couple times a week and you get to know them well.
Q:What is the most common case of injury you have seen all through the years?
A: Rick: Shoulder injuries, and back injuries are probably the most common. A lot of people come in for posture as well mostly from the trouble they have to sit up straight. Everyday is different though, ranging the injuries from an ankle sprain to a shoulder dislocation.
Q: In your opinion, what makes Physical Therapy unique?
A:Rick: I think that unlike other medical fields, in Physical Therapy you get to work on people hands n and you get to know your patients very well. You get to make a relationship with your patients, and communicate with them more than you would with normal medical job where your patients visit you every 6 months.
Q: In what ways is your occupation changing?
A : Rick: Well, first of all they changed the requirements for a PT, from a masters degree to a doctors degree. But, one huge way that PT is changing though would have to be that PT is becoming more research based. There is a stronger research push. Pt is now more 'evidence based' practice rather than before where it was less research based. Everything used for PT has to be evident that it works and it has to be researched.
Q: How has your job affected your lifestyle?
A : Rick: I put a lot of energy into my work so after work, when I come home, I feel like I have no energy, and it is hard for me to finish the day. I have to complete my workouts in the morning too, because in the afternoon I have no energy. You must have time management to become a PT.

Internship Reflection
For my internship, I visited PRN La Jolla Physical Therapy with Rick Stauffer. We spent time with Physical Therapist, Rick Stauffer, at the Wellness Program.
We first arrived at the address, Scripps Clinic, Mr. Thoene had provided the four of us, (Dallas, David Perez, Amir, and I), with. We found out that we had come to the wrong place and that we had to get the right address from the front desk at Scripps Clinic. After getting the correct addresses, we all gathered back into our cars, and drove over to PRN La Jolla Physical Therapy. We all arrived at about the same time and all four of us (plus our parents) walked over the the sheer glass building. We asked for directions and we were led into a large open room filled with machinery and patients beds. We found Rick Stauffer and he led us to the far corner of the room where his shadower, Selena, talked to us about the journey of PT.
She talked about schooling, different types of physical therapy, and about physical therapy advantages and disadvantages. She also gave us time at the end of her short 'lecture' for us to ask her questions. We asked questions from our interview list, asking her about her college choices, and college courses. (Rick was treating a patient while we talked with Selena.) Once we had asked all our question with Selena, we talked with both Rick and Selena hitting them with questions about why PT is unique, or what are some different common injuries.
Once we finished most of our questions on our list, Selena decided to give us a little anatomy lesson on the shoulders and knees before we took a tour around the large room. She took out plastic models of shoulder ball and socket, as well as a model knee cap and cushion.
Then we took the tour around the room, watching the different techniques and meeting the other Physical Therapists. She showed us the ice station and heat station, as well as the machinery. She showed us foam rollers, an air pressured pulley system machine, a coretex machine, body blade, and an electronic shock machine to relieve tension. Once we had tried and experimented with each of the machines, we met back up with Rick and we asked final questions about why he left sports medicine, and about why he likes his job. Once we had collected our information needed, we thanked him for our time, and we were off. Our time was up, and we had run a few five minutes of so over our time limit. I left the building and waited on a table stand near a little cafe for my mom.
The most important thing that I learned over this internship is that you get to know your patients well, and that Physical Therapy is unique in that way. You get to connect with each of your patients and you get to work hands on.
What surprised me about physical therapy is that you get arrange your schedule on your own, rather than having a set day.
After this internship, I want to become a physical therapist even more. The idea of meeting new people and helping them using different techniques makes me feel excited to enter into this field. Working with different people hands on and connecting with different people would make me feel like I would be making a difference in the world.

Stock Write Up
Stocks can be described as a share in someone’s company. When you buy a stock in a company such as apple, you gain a very small part of their earnings when they are doing well, and you lose some money when they are doing not so well. A stock is like a tiny claim on someone’s company.
The stock markets history starts with the Venetians in the 1300’s where they would trade securities, and act a lot like brokers. In the 1500’s, Belgium held a stock exchange, where Brokers and moneylenders would meet. They would deal with business, government and individual debt issues, but they would only dealt with promissory notes, and bonds. Then in the 1600’s, the French, English and Dutch governments all gave charter to the companies with East India included in their name. When the East India companies were created, the companies changed the way all the business was run. These were the first joint stock companies, that can relate to the modern stock companies. The way the East India companies was run, allowed them to build up their business and demand more for their shares.
Stocks helps every company expand and become more known to the world. If we buy stocks, the business is controlled also by the public. Without the public sharing the business, the private company would have too much power. Also, when you have stocks you give money to the shareholder, which helps the company’s research and helps them become a bigger company. Stocks also are a great way to make some money on the side. You can buy stocks in a company you think is going to do really well, and then once you think it is a good time to sell the stock, you sell the stock.
